Dear Friend of Animals,
As we approach the end of another year, we're writing to share an exciting new chapter in our journey at the Humane Society of Central Texas. We're evolving our approach to animal welfare with a bold vision: keeping beloved pets with their families and out of the shelter system whenever possible.
Our community's animals need your support now more than ever as we launch this transformative initiative. We're implementing an innovative foster-based direct intake program with an ambitious goal of helping 1,000 animals find loving homes annually. But this is just the beginning.
Meet Malana
In April 2024, Malana arrived at the shelter as a lively puppy struggling to adjust to kennel life. After several foster placements, her energy and behavior challenges grew. In October, she joined our foster program, where a patient, stable environment allowed her to decompress and learn basic manners.
Soon, a family fell in love with her at a meet-and-greet. Their 10-year-old Great Dane welcomed Malana instantly, and the adoption was finalized ahead of schedule. Malana had found her forever home!

To further our commitment to preventing shelter surrenders, we are excited to introduce our expanded services under the Human-Animal Support Services (HASS) model, including:

Veterinary Support: Helping families access affordable medical care for their pets

Pet Food Pantry: Ensuring no pet goes hungry during times of family hardship

Education & Resources: Providing behavior training and support to keep pets in homes

Community Outreach: Connecting pet owners with the resources they need before crisis strikes

Responsible Rehoming: Through our "New Leash on Life" program, we help families find safe, loving homes for their pets without resorting to shelter surrender

Return to Owner (RTO) Program: Helping lost pets quickly reunite with their families, reducing the need for shelter intake.

Increased Spay/Neuter Opportunities: Prevention is the solution, and we are committed to increasing access to affordable spay and neuter resources for our community.
